Sick

Ugh...have been sick since Monday...sore throat and all that jazz. Had to go to school while sick too...not the most enjoyable adventure. Actually ended up skipping my virology class on tuesday morning because I just felt WAY too bad...went to my next two classes though (both three hour labs) but I was feeling better after having slept for 12 hours and even better today after 10 hours of sleep. Hubby has been totally cool and all evening Monday I laid on the couch watching Law & Order while he kept the kids out of my hair.

Well, back to school again...lol..never stops!

Decision Made

I have finally decided what I am going to do with myself after I graduate.

After much searching and finding no acceptable job for me directly after graduation I have decided to put two more years into the whole mess. I am going to go to school for one more year, get that hematology course under my belt and then apply (and hopefully be accepted) to attend UC Davis' Clinical Laboratory Scientist internship. What this will do for me is give me a year of education towards a masters degree which will count as experience and the year long internship will also count as experience. This means that I will have a total of two years experience (somewhat) added to my military experience I will be able to apply for jobs that are for the federal government and have security, medical, dental and vision paid! I will also have vacation and good money.

This has been no easy decision, I did not want to put off going back to work, I searched long and hard for a job in the nearby area or even with in two to three states that I could work at with what I will have under my belt with the degree and nothing truly fit. I even looked into winerys, brewerys, food markets and research facilities in addition to hospitals but everything either wanted 3-5 years experience, two more years education, or was set up to accept me as a high school grad with education in substitution for experience. It was very frustrating!

In all it gives me some wiggle room too, the boys are loving their school, R is finally settled into a school that is doing him some good. Next year he will be going for the full day (not the Kindergarten half-day) and I want the school to be familiar and comfortable for him. S has some good friends and the school is great for him. I really don't have the resources to move in two or three months anyway. My friends are here and I don't make friends easily. If we were not to move I have no way to commute right now anyway.

So lots of really good reasons to stay here for now, maybe forever!

Oh...also

Forgot one very funny event of the weekend.

While warming a dish to send out for the big dinner we had on Sat for Hubby's birthday I set the kitchen on fire!!

Lol...I was so scared...flapping my hands and everything. What happened was that the ribs had dripped onto the burners in the oven and when I turned it back on to heat the dish I turned it higher than it had been. The grease from the ribs caught on fire and the oven was an inferno...

Special thanks to Denise for her quick thinking...she kept her head and told me to look for baking soda...one little handful put the fire out...just threw it in and poof...no fire!!

Thanks D

AACCKK...sorry that short hiatus turned into a long one. It has been a busy couple of weeks. That week that started the hiatus off was quite busy, with 4 lab writeups (5-10 pgs long), 2 journal article reviews (3-5 pgs long), one portfolio (6 pgs long) and two midterms in the same week due it was a bit hectic. Luckly my hubby pulled through for me and was a great help in taking some of the load so I could study.

Let's see what has been going on...LOTS!!

1. I have been feeling rather bad lately with wierd vertigo/dizziness/nausea thing going. It started out very slow and ramped up to happening 3-4 times a day...needless to say it was a bit scary.

2. Finally got to see a good doc about my wrists, feet, neck and the above mentioned dizziness. He diagnosed me with no reservations about my age with carpal tunnel syndrome. He has me in wrist braces for two weeks 24/7 and then after that only at night for two more weeks. For my dizziness he figures/hopes it is a thing called labrynthitis...I have an infection in my inner ear. He also said on the rest of the stuff that if the wrists are not better in a month he is going to get me on an experimental drug to help people who have multiple nerve issues in the extremities. Unfortunately it will not be covered by my insurance so bummer...not sure if that is even an option. Anyway...he really listened and I get to see him quicker that six months so I am happy.

3. Hubby's birthday was Monday last...he had a great birthday, we had some friends over on Saturday night and enjoyed some fabulous ribs that I made (pat, pat, pat) and he made some steaks and the vegies on his new grill...all was fantastic and everyone ate more than they thought they could.

4. I am finally off for spring break and am simply relaxing...I need it..got two mid-terms when I get back...bastards.

5. I cut my hair, not crazy cut...just went to a good salon and had them style it and I LOVE it...will have to figure out how to get some pics up...maybe hubby can help...

6. R's therapist has recommended him to go to get a psych eval...mostly so we can rule out anything like his post traumatic stress stuff being the cause of his ADHD like symptoms...I do have to say that he is doing fantastically though...he is being such a good kid...I swear it is like having a different kid...

7. S is doing great in school...still daydreams like mad but he is good...he has been sick for the last several days and can't seem to fight it off so I took him to the doc today, they gave him antibiotics that insurance wont pay for...so back to the doc tomorrow to see if we can get something else.

8. I took the boys skating yesterday (roller not ice) and we had a blast..unfortunately my body decided to let me know that I am not 16 anymore...I fell...HARD...when this very comical fall happened I threw my arm behind me to brace myself...I am not sure what I did but my shoulder hurts REALLY REALLY REALLY bad. I know also that putting my arm back did me no good because I still hit my head on the ground...so my arm went behind me essentially going around like a Barbie dolls arm will go...elbow first around. OUCH

Well that I think is about it...I am gonna go do more relaxing...not the skating kind of relaxing mind you ....just relaxing!!
