A hunting we will go....

I have begun my job hunting in earnest...with 4 applications, one interview and lots of searching...lol.. sounds like it is not in so much earnest when I write it down but it is. I am conducting two job searches because the VA will only continue to pay the promised two months subsistence if I am job hunting for a job that is microbiology related. So here I am conducting a faux job hunt and a real one for a job that will carry me through the summer and into the fall and spring semesters.

One good thing has occured as a result of my faux job hunt, I think I may have misread the Federal guidelines for their microbiology type positions. I thought they were looking for someone who has been through the 1 year internship that I am gearing up for...however...upon a second examination all I really need is a bachelors degree in microbiology...so we will see...big thing would be that they won't pay relocation assistance...that sucks...there is no way I can move right now...just dont have the capital. Eh...maybe there is one that is with in commuting distance for an aged car.

The second job hunt is going okay..there is lots of PT work out there for clerical so I am not worried about having to resort to convenience store or flipping burgers! Yay for clerical!

This weekend was FANTASTIC!!!!! Shel and Trav and their daughter came down all the way from Seattle and we had a blast just hanging out together at the poolside...unfortunately the weather was a bit cold so there was little swimming (for the adults atleast) to be done. It was great to just relax with them...it is always good when friends you have not seen in a long time can come by and you are able to fall right into your old groove with them...you know then that there has been no growing apart.

Thanks sooooooo much for coming down this weekend guys....love you and miss you already!!!

The Graduate

Well all, I did it...I graduated today. My Husband, S, R, Dad and step-mom, Mom and step-dad, my very good friend Evan, sister-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law were all present.

It was a VERY long and VERY boring ceremony so thanks to everyone who showed up and hung out. It rained periodically through the proceedings and fortunately we did bring umbrellas for the kids and hubby. I did not have one however so the dean of my college took pity on all us idiots who did not bring anything to keep dry and gave us ponchos. The announcer guy was fantastic and only messed up a few names (out of 1800 not a bad record there!), he did sound like the next words out of his mouth after he said each persons name should have been, "...come on down... you're the next contestant on the Price is Right!" Afterwards we were supposed to go swimming at the house but the rain cancelled that, my sister-in-law treated everyone out to lunch because we were all starving and getting woozy. There was a grand total of 9 microbiology graduates out of the 1800 for that day (six in the spring and the rest in fall and summer semesters) the only major that had fewer graduates was physics who had 6 for the whole year. There were 3 days of graduations and we were the last.

All in all I was very happy with having chosen to cross the stage, got some really great pics which I may or may not put up...still deciding.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has helped me through this longest of my goals...lol. Thanks all and love to you

Update (again)

Hate calling these ones "update" but can't think of a new title!!

Well, just rounded off the last real week of school with a flourish...actually managing to get done all of what was due this week...to include but not limited to...

6 lab write ups (5-8 pages long each)
2 portfolios (also 5-8 pages long each)
2 Lab finals
1 Research poster
1 Journal article review

and all on what is supposed to be dead week too...lol...guess dead week is the Snipe hunting expedition for freshmen!! Supposedly dead week is supposed to be an easy week so you can prep for finals the next week!!

Anyway...I am set without a hitch to graduate...Even if I don't show up for the finals I will pass my classes! I will of course still show up...but it is a relief to not have that hanging over my head!!

I have decided to volunteer at the boys school after my school is out...on Tuesdays I will be at R's class and Thursdays I will be at S's class...for half day each! They are both fortunately still young enough to think this is the coolest! I will probably get a job soon...have to pay bills ya know!

I am excited to be finishing at the university but like I said before it is a little anti-climactic since I am going back in the fall..but still am happy to be able to finally feel like I have acheived one of my goals so far...next is that elusive one year internship...just gotta figure out where I want to go!

S's b-day went well...he had lots of fun and we even had extra kids show up...which he loved. We gave him a new bike...he had outgrown his old one a long time ago and he was so very due for a new bigger one...he used to look like a clown riding a little mini cycle! now he has this HUGE (well atleast to me huge) bike that seems impossibly big for him to me even though it actually fits him well...have I told you all he is only 11 inches shorter than me...comes up to just below my shoulders!! this kid is going to be a giant!!

R is doing very good, he is such a wonderful kid to have around now that he is causing less stress...lol...that sounds terrible but he was REALLY difficult for a while there. He is helpful, thoughtful and even feels badly when he gets in trouble..which is a great step...used to be he did not care...now he shows his emotions a little better...still wierd as hell though...

Hubby is doing good...has a presentation to give for his class for finals week...lucky bum...I get all the finals and he gets a presentation...lol

Still trying to get the pool to be blue..think we may have finally gotten the right combination...it was bluer when the sun went down today...we gave it a really healthy dose of algicide, then waited a bit then shocked the shit out of it and then this evening gave it some clarifier...crossing fingers that we can swim by Sunday!!

well...i gotta get some sleep...happy mothers day to all you mothers out there!!

All is well...

Well, I made it through the other side of May 1 unscathed...not that there was any real danger...actually turned out to be a pretty good day.

I had a doctors appointment about the wonkiness of my heart...and I am in great condition...it really is that the caffeine has been making the wonky happen...somehow my body decided it no longer likes to have buttloads of caffeine dumped into it...go figure! In the process he had also checked my cholesterol...which is WAY in the good range...150 ish. And all the HDL and LDL buisness is in the right ranges as well. So yay...just have to get my quick energy from elsewhere!

Graduation is in two and a half weeks...May 21...kinda nervous but it seems a bit anticlimatic since I am going to be going back in the fall...but hey...you don't get a Bachelors degree everyday you know! My mom is going to even make it down...My dad is coming up...friends will be there...and most important my hubby and boys are going to be there...I am excited!!!

Anyway...instructors are going crazy with last minute gotta-turn-this-in-during-dead-week things and then finals week is week after next and I am done...still gotta find a job though...atleast part time anyway.

well...gotta go get some of those things done...

:)
